THE ROYAL LOO BREAK: King Charles III and Queen Camilla hit the road in Virginia today, with plans to visit the historic town of Front Royal to attend an “America at 250” party. Ahead of the trip, a British Embassy advance party was dispatched to find the best places along the route for a comfort break for the royal duo, POLITICO’s Anne McElvoy writes in. Restroom scouts found a gas station with a cordial female manager — and presumably a restroom (aka “loo”) in suitable condition. When they contacted the supervisor at the gas station, an embassy insider confirmed to Playbook that she was so overcome at the prospect of a royal visit that she burst into tears. FIRST IN PLAYBOOK: Amid the layoffs, dramatic programming changes and general chaos at the Kennedy Center, there’s also internal sniping and infighting that’s tarnishing one of Washington’s most celebrated arts venues. Latest skirmish: Several people have started grumbling about artistic manager Rick Canny, who was hired last year as a top consultant. Canny made a series of anti-Trump comments in meetings and conversations, according to three people who heard the remarks, which mirror comments he’s made on social media, POLITICO’s Daniel Lippman reports. “Fuck Trump,” two people recalled Canny telling them last summer. Canny said he hated Trump and identified himself as a Democrat, one of the people said. He also criticized Trump’s push to rename the Kennedy Center in his honor, according to another person who heard the remarks. That sentiment is similar to his past social media posts, where he mocked former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway and warned Trump-era environmental deregulation could lead to Americans being “sickened/ poisoned.” Canny denied making the expletive about Trump or saying he hated the president. He also said he spent decades as a registered Republican and is no longer a Democrat; during the reporting for this item, his party affiliation changed in California, where he lives, from Democrat to independent, and the Conway post no longer appears on his Instagram page. “I came here to help restore the grandeur, the majesty, the greatness of our nation’s premier performing arts center,” Canny said in an email. “I was truly surprised at the scope of the problems.” A spokesperson for the Kennedy Center had no comment. IN MEMORIAM: “John Seymour, Anaheim mayor and U.S. senator, dies at 88,” by the L.A. Times’ Gustavo Arellano: “Appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1990 after Pete Wilson was elected governor, Seymour lost his seat to Dianne Feinstein two years later and never ran for public office again. He remains the last California Republican to serve in that role. … As his party swung to the right, the moderate Seymour had no problem with becoming a political afterthought.” — Lisa Blackwell, who was SVP and head of political strategy at the National Multifamily Housing Council, died earlier this month at 64. She’d spent 23 years at the organization, which lauded “her expertise, work ethic and lasting contributions to improving the nation’s housing.” Her full obituary THE TRUMP FAMILY AMAZON ACCOUNT: Amazon executives have started discussing the prospect of rebooting “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump Jr. as host, WSJ’s Jessica Toonkel and Dana Mattioli scooped. They haven’t even asked the Trump family yet, but the early idea would be to revive the series that made Donald Trump famous on Prime Video.
