5 Things to Remember When Planning Your Camping Meals
| | This is also a consideration when planning or choosing your site. Is there a supermarket nearby or do you have to bring everything? If you have to bring, make sure to have a good cooler. And can you easily get ice for the cooler??? Lots to consider. I honestly find that planning the supplies is one of the hardest, yet most important parts of a successful camping trip. Make sure you have a checklist for this one There are some interesting 'camping friendly' recipes - like theseRemember to part prep - e.g. pancake better, so save brining the first principle ingredients - especially for shorter or weekend trips.

Yes, even for this, insulation is crucial. I absolutely HATE those God forsaken metal camping cups and mugs. I think I can actually see the coffee getting cold as it hits the metal! Please, bring good quality insulated mugs. They don't have to be expensive, unless you want to splash out on a Yeti. And get one with a lid!

3. What cooking system suits best? Are there cooking facilities on your campsite?
| | When staying on campsites in Australia, I was amazed at the quality of their cooking facilities. Barbecues everywhere, and usually clean! Unfortunately not everywhere is so well equipped. So you'll usually have to bring your own cooking equipment, unless you're planning to eat out all the time. And there are an enormous amount of options. Gas vs charcoal BBQ vs multifuel for example. If you just want to turn on and cook, then gas is obviously the one for you. However if you're more of a foodie, you may want to take advantage of the opportunity to cook outdoors, and may like to consider other options. Here are a few from our friends at The Telegraph. And our friends at The Outdoor Gear Lab also have tested a lot of BBQ grills.

2. If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair!
| | How true. And as you may know, I'm all about comfort when camping. It shouldn't be a hardship. So you're going to need somewhere to chill in the evening either with your whiskey or wine, and maybe even a book. So please don't skimp on the chairs. Lots of people do. But life is too short. This will also be your dining chair, remember! And there is a world of campaign chairs out there, for every bum size and budget. This is a good start point, again from The Outdoor Gear Lab. | | | | |
OK, in an ideal world you're going to need one table or station for cooking, and one for consuming. And on the cooking one you need multiple surfaces - think raw vs. prepared vs. utensils. But don't be worried. Again, there are lots of options. My bit of advice here - the KISS theory - Keep It Simple, Stupid. We don't need to reinvest the wheel, or over innovate here. Easily cleanable, sturdy and simple to set up. I would also recommend some closed or covered space to keep insects and flies away. And for the eating table - the same. Sturdy and simple to set-up. Adjustable heights are a must - not a all camping chairs - or campers are equal! Like This One >>>
3 Best Camping Clothing Innovations (that's a mouthful!)
| | 3. PFC free clothing This is brilliant news for a number of reasons, and is being championed by - you guessed it - Patagonia. OK, first things first. 'PFC stands for perfluorinated chemicals, or polyfluorinated chemicals. The term 'fluorocarbons' is also used. It's a family of synthetic chemical compounds made of carbon and fluorine. Several decades ago, it was discovered that some PFCs are very stable and very effective and resisting heat, oil, stains, and water. Naturally then, PFCs have since been produced and used in wide array of consumer products ranging from cookware to water repellent clothing. Weatherproof outdoor clothing needs a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating or waterproof membrane (like Gore-Tex) to stave off water. When you see water beading on your waterproof jacket rather than soak into the fabric, that's the DWR or waterproof membrane at work. ' So far so good. However the application of PFC's has been largely unregulated since adoption. And their name 'forever chemicals' suggests the problem. They don't go away. So as they bleed off of your jacket or tent, they accumulate in the environment. The good news is that Patagonia dn others are leading the charge, and Patagonia have undertaken to phase them out by 2025. Good news for the environment. Maybe not so good news for Gore-Tex. However some other brands are already there. Find Out More >>>

2. Look after the feet!

1. Sleep like a baby Literally. So many times I have been camping with people who are quite happy to sleep in the clothes they wore during the day. Or they go to bed sweating and wake up during the night freezing. Sleep needs to be planned beyond the sleeping bag and sleeping pad. Sleep wear is crucial. I'm not a fan of double jobbing for this. A slight problem for camping hikers maybe, but I value my sleep! Again there are options, and again I say keep it simple. Layers that can be easily added or taken are the best. OK, some of these may not exactly be new innovations. But I don't care - this is important! Check It Out >>>
