5 Tips for Choosing a Campsite
| | As obvious as this seems, it's amazing how many people don't check forecasts before embarking on a camping trip. And, if you have to book well in advance (as is usually the case with popular sites) and can't cancel late on, then you can at least look at prevalent weather. Weather Spark is a useful site for trip planning.

For the love of God, check the reviews. Simple. Last thing you want is to be eaten by mosquitoes (as happened yours truly!) or worry about tick infestations when a simple review check would have informed us. Tripadvisor and others offer a decent insight. Check a few. Patterns emerge.

3. Clientele - family, hen parties
| | You definitely don't want to be the one that hasn't been invited to the party. Are sites aimed at stags rather than families? Check the facilities and email the site to make sure you don't find any unwanted surprises. Also, check pitch size and spacings. Snoring in your tent sucks. Snoring from the tent next door really sucks. And of course, our Culla helps with this! (Shameless plug!)
| | | | |
2. Easy access to a town or village, beach and activities
| | If you're staying for more than a weekend, it's good to know that there are options for activities close by. Be it beaches, restaurant choices, ice cream parlors, sightseeing or movies on a wet day! Contingencies are vital. So check what's within driving, or even better, cycling distance. | | | | |
Sunbathing is great. But it can get old. So remember to check the range of facilities on site, as well as when they were built or upgraded. This can be found online. Social media is a good starting point. You can also check the review specifically on facilities as suggested above. Do your research.
3 Helpful Camping Innovations
| | 3. Hi-Gear Folding Toaster OK. I must have toast for brekkie. And if you're camping without access to an electric hookup or you don't have space to pack a toaster, this is an awesome alternative. Simply set the rack up on your camping stove and let the heat do its job. Check it out >>>

2. SkySafari 7 Pro stargazing app
SkySafari 7 Pro is one of the more expensive stargazing apps on the market, but if you're serious about the night sky, it's well worth the asking price. As we discovered in our SkySafari 7 Pro review, this app is an absolute powerhouse. It provides details on millions of stars, galaxies and other space objects. The planetarium page syncs seamlessly with the night sky whatever way you're holding your phone and also offers an impressive AR overlay option via your phone's camera. More info >>>
1. GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker Portable Folding Rocking Chair OK, it's a luxury, but…..I like to be able to actually really relax while camping. One verified review: "This chair is life. I absolutely love it. It is more than just your average camping chair. It is comfortable as can be and so nice that you are able to rock in it. Spent many hours sitting in this chair with my baby rocking her during the summer months. Highly recommend." Product info >>>
Crickets can calculate the temperature! You don't always need a fancy gadget to tell you how hot or cold it is. During the spring and summer months, you can calculate the temperature by listening to a chirping cricket. Simply count the number of chirps you hear in 14 seconds. Then, add 40 to that number to find out the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
