Weeds are really quite inspirational. (Hear me out on this) They don't ask for permission to grow, and they don't give a flying you-know-what if you didn't clear the ground for them. All they need is a crack in the pavement or a field that is mostly gravel. They're going to grow, darnit. Weeds have been making defiant vibrancy into an art form for millennia. If you need some inspiration for protest today or for whatever world-healing action is right for you then take a cue from our plant friends. Let loving, living, and thriving inspire you to speak out. You are sovereign and important. You are part of a community, and together we form an ecosystem. We might face adversity, but like our plant friends we can create life and healing despite challenging circumstances. As for me, I'm working today because for over 15 years Blissoma has been my effort to create change in the world. | | My talent has always been as a healer, creative, builder, planner, and communicator. I make beauty in all its forms no matter where I go or what I do. You might have noticed that Blissoma is a different than a lot of businesses. That's by design. I didn't start a skincare brand to get trendy and then sell the company. I started Blissoma because I was sick of bad business practices, unhealthy work cultures, unhealthy products, abusive treatment of people all through the supply chain, and inaccessibility/exclusivity. I was (and am) sick of the narcissism and self hatred that the beauty industry promotes. I wanted to build something better. Activism is the reason we are here. Sometimes people think we just make skincare, so I'm happy to remind folks that we are so much more. I've had to take inspiration from my dandelion, plantain, chickweed, and chicory friends many, many times. It's not easy to thrive in a business culture that is built on exploitive behavior at every level. But here we are, working with intention each day and flowering like a dandelion in the sidewalk crack of the beauty industry. | | I realize that shopping may not seem like a high priority with everything going on in the world. Our culture is definitely over-consumeristic, and "stuff" isn't generally the answer to problems. Doing differently and choosing a life that feels and impacts differently IS the answer. Choosing to care deeply for each other is the answer. I hope that if you are out in the street today standing for a compassionate society that you meet other good people who also care. I hope that you feel more hopeful afterward. No matter where you are or what you do, I hope you see a few weeds and allow them to remind you that it's possible to thrive in adversity. And then I hope you bring some vibrantly defiant energy home and ask where else in your life needs some of that medicine. And if you want some more healing from weeds we're happy to help. The products below contain our medicinal weed friends, harvested from regenerative and independent farms and extracted carefully by us. Your skincare routine can be part of building a better world. It can also be a part of keeping you feeling great so you can do more each day. Wishing you an amazing day of personal and community sovereignty, connection, hope, and healing!
