In 17 years of making and selling skincare we've experienced a lot of things. But in all that time we've never done THIS. You see, until now every Blissoma skin and bodycare recipe has been formulated entirely by me, Julie. We don't purchase "base" recipes to customize. I do the hard work to come up with something original so that you know that when you buy a Blissoma product it's truly something different. But now a new chapter of our story is starting.... That's because the Violets Are Blue Magnesium Deodorants are becoming part of Blissoma! | | Our story begins in around 2016. The green beauty community from 2010 - 2020 was a special place. It was friendly, innovative, and people really had their hearts in their work. I've been fortunate to meet and befriend many green beauty founders from OG brands over the years. Cynthia Besteman and I easily became friends. We clicked right away and some similar experiences brought us together. Cynthia started Violets Are Blue in 2015 after a breast cancer diagnosis. The process of healing from her cancer made her want to provide products that would support health and be super safe. | | Cynthia especially wanted to ensure that people (particularly breast cancer patients and survivors) had effective deodorant to use. Over a three year period she set about designing the perfect magnesium deodorant recipe. Batch after batch, she worked on it until it was just right. The magnesium deodorants quickly became a bestseller for her brand. Life (and the beauty industry) keeps moving and in 2025 Cynthia decided it was time to begin a new chapter in her life. Last fall she announced that Violets Are Blue would be closing. I reached out, and she expressed that she was particularly feeling sad about the deodorant since SO much work went into the recipe. I took a look at the ingredients, ordered a sample, and quickly decided that I wanted to make her recipe part of our brand. | | We had probably the easiest, most excited, friendliest sale negotiation ever. She was thrilled to have the recipe going to someone that would represent it well. I was tickled at the thought of growing our brand in such a synergistic way. You see, we already have some exciting things planned for our own deodorant sticks this year..... So this was very aligned and serendipitous! Now I can no longer say that I formulated every recipe for Blissoma. But that's ok, because this is a recipe that fits in at Blissoma so well! | | The Violets Are Blue deodorants really expand our options. Their primary odor protection ingredient is magnesium. No baking soda! They have a firmer consistency that applies in a thinner layer. It's also kindof fun that we pour them upside down! There are 3 options - Scent Free, Eucalyptus, and Lemongrass/Tea Tree. | | The ingredients are simple and sustainable: Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Magnesium Hydroxide, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Oil*, Tapioca Starch*, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (shea) Butter*, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Copernicia Cerifera (carnauba) Wax, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Tocopherol (sunflower based Vitamin E) *From Organic Agriculture The scented versions contain essential oils of Eucalyptus or Lemongrass and Tea Tree. Super simple. | | For now we're going to be using the remaining Violets Are Blue packaging so that it doesn't go to the landfill. It was the most eco-friendly choice. For now we're matching the VAB pricing, which was $26. We want this to be a smooth transition for all the VAB customers who depended on this product.
