From John Danaher:
I am very happy to announce the release of my latest instructional video - MASTER THE MOVE: OMOPLATA.
Omoplata has always had a reputation among the major submissions of Jiu Jitsu as the easiest submission hold to enter into, but the hardest one to finish.
There is a lot of truth to this. If you look at the historical record of international competition, omoplata definitely underperforms compared with the other major submission holds.
This is even more true when we look at no gi competition. This video asks the question - is this underperformance due to weaknesses in the move itself? Or in our understanding and performance of it?
I argue that if we take a new approach we can keep the great virtue of omoplata - that is is quite easy to enter - but noticeably improve its biggest weakness - the difficulty of controlling the position all the way through to a successful finish.
We look at strategies for controlling the omoplata position over time against skilled resistance and more efficient finishing positions that avoid the difficulties presented by the classical approaches to omoplata.
If omoplata is a move you’ve always been interested but been disappointed by results in live sparring and competition - check it out!
