So, we're all making our way nicely through the summer. I'm just back from a campsite in France, Le Beach Garden, which was fantastic! We took the ferry from Ireland, so we were able to pack (almost literally) the kitchen sink.
Anyhow, a few observations and musings from my trip that you might find useful when planning your next camping getaway:
| | | | |
YOU CANNOT UNDERESTIMATE THE HEAT | | It was around 100F/38C at times, so really important to plan for. As most people camp during the summer, in hot temps, this needs consideration. Remember: | | - Bring cooler boxes with lots of fluids
- Possible access to AC, or at least fans? This is crucial. Remember our Cullas work brilliantly with mobile AC - shameless plug 😂!
- Be near water - there will be more air movement and it's a way of cooling down your body temp quickly
- Bring hats with a wide brim for adults and kids
- Sun screen. I'll say it again. Sun screen!
- Aluminized shade or tarps. If in a tent - make sure it's a very bright color to reflect.

RV's, motorhomes and campervans are becoming more and more prevalent. And, these set-ups are sparing no expense. Phenomenal!
We didn't bring or rent bikes last year, but found that our kids (ages 9, 10 and 12) were much more independent with their bikes this year, which opened up a wider area for exploring in the evenings.
Stand Up Paddling is a lot harder in the sea! Of course, in hindsight, this is obvious… 🤔 We were able to pack 2 inflatable ones as well, and they were put to good use.
While I appreciate the pros of campsites with great facilities, having swathes of people at every turn is not my idea of a holiday. So, do research on where you are going and figure out less trodden areas. | | CAMPING GUIDES | CAMPING IN...
We lost sight of our middle child one evening, and it's not nice. Have a chat with your kids about what to do in that situation. Luckily it was only a couple of minutes and all was fine. But, it can so easily happen. Read "Master the Art of Camping with Kids" and discover how to thrive in the outdoors with your little explorers. Read more >>

AVOID SCREEN TIME ARGUMENTS | | Have a screen plan/allowance. Those screens (phones, tablets etc.) cause a lot of arguments, so discuss and agree on a plan and stick to it. And yes, I mean the adults too!

Anyhow, I hope you'll find some value from this as you plan your next trip. Two things before you go:
1. Are you working in the outdoors industry, in any capacity? If so, you should sign up for our free outdoors industry B2B 'deep-dive' newsletter:
2. I think that existing outdoors jackets are more about flare than substance. So we're going to do better, by developing our own. Join the conversation to have your say: | | Thanks for reading and happy camping. As always feel free to reply with any questions, thoughts and feedback. - Derek
