Your body has a volume dial for inflammation

Hey there,

Think of inflammation as your body's fire alarm. Useful when it sounds, draining when it will not switch off after the job is done.

Here is what surprised the researchers. In a 2014 PNAS study, people trained with cold exposure and deliberate breathing were injected with a bacterial toxin, then voluntarily blunted their own inflammatory response. Markedly lower IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-alpha, and fewer flu-like symptoms than the control group.

One honest detail matters here. Cold was bundled with breathing in that study, so both played a part. And the timing is the thing most people get wrong: the calming effect unfolds over hours, not seconds, so the coldest, longest session is not the answer.
